New 3D laser scanner can capture objects over half a mile away - but distorts human faces horribly. Implications?
Good, I’d prefer more instruments with that kind of range to distort my face beyond recognition.
I can’t really say about my country alone- it’s a globalized world, and I consider myself a citizen of the net more than any one nation.
Ten years from now. The internet has been split in two, effectively. On one side is the legitimate, corporate-controlled internet with all it’s pay walls and censors and “irregular traffic detection”. On the other are the Darknets- the new computer underground, havens for smugglers, revolutionaries, perverts, and hackers.
North Korea has fallen apart, leading to a massive black market and turning the Sea of Japan into pirate territory. Japan re-militarizes.
Secession seems imminent, whether it’s 10 years from now or a hundred. The restored republics of Texas and California will probably be the first, followed by Cascadia, possibly Vermont, maybe Arizona and New Mexico. Civil war would be limited and short, if any takes place.
I can certainly suggest SoundMagic. Don’t think you’ll find anything half as good for the price. Mine are the ES18s.

I wish I could get all my friends from the net together and live as a tribe, nomads of North America in anti-recognition face paint and vehicles crammed with electronics, supplies, cargos, weapons.
